Hola amigos y familia!
I have been practicing my Spanish! Thanks Duolingo! So here's my week!
Monday was really relaxed, we did our P-day things, which included hanging out at the church building goofing off for like 6 hours, which was stressful to me because I wanted to do productive things. It's so funny being out with missionaries that have been out for a while because they only know old memes, because we don't have social media to update us on the new memes. I met a poor Elder who couldn't stop doing the whip, because he has no idea that the whole world has moved on, haha! When I get home it will probably be weird, the whoa will probably be so old! But after 6pm we went to the Earl's and taught Maggie a little lesson about spiritual CPR (Church, Pray, Read) and had dinner with their family.
Tuesday was a good day! We had a lesson with a man named Scott! We taught him about the Plan of Salvation and how we can live with God again! He said that it made sense. After that we contacted some people in the Edinburgh ward boundaries! Sister Tunstall's phone died, so she had to give me the mission SIM card, and I felt so powerful! We met Sister Crane, who is a caretaker for a sweet down syndrome girl named Skyler! She is a great person, who loves sharing the gospel with people! Her neighbor, Brenna, loves coming to church with her. We may be able to teach her sometime soon! Then we had dinner with the Stewarts, who are awesome! After dinner, we had a lesson with Heather! We taught Heather about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she said she felt peace when she heard about it!
On Wednesday morning we went to help someone move. They were getting evicted and their mom was having issues, so she couldn't be there, so all the missionaries in our district came to help! Except they had SO MUCH STUFF! We couldn't even finish packing the kitchen completely before Sister Tunstall and I had to leave. We went by to visit Angela and Trehvon, but no one answered. They have been really hard to get a hold of this week, so hopefully we can meet them next week! But we were able to have a lesson with Kellan! Kellan is a little boy who wants to be baptized! He is so sweet and smart! Our lesson went well, and he said he would pray about a date to get baptized! We had dinner with the Standings that night, who are literally the most fun people ever! They tried to guess our first names! They guessed mine pretty easy after I gave them a hint, but they had a really hard time with Sister Tunstall's, so that was funny! That night we went by Kim Walker's house, and we got to teach her about the Plan of Salvation and helped her carve her pumpkins! I carved a cat! It was a really great time!
THURSDAY WAS AWESOME! It was Halloween! By the way, Happy Halloween! We went to volunteer at a food bank, with a Baptist church. The pastor woman was extremely intense, I'm not sure if she liked us or not! But we got to bag beans and cheese and help feed families, so that was fun! After that we went to visit Kim again and helped her finish her pumpkins! She's so sweet! After that we walked to the Jensen's, because Sister Jensen makes donuts every Halloween, so we got to visit with them and eat some delicious homemade donuts! Then Sister Blaser picked us up and took us to Chick-fil-a! YUM! Then we got to go to the temple!!! Missionaries are not allowed to be out on Halloween, so our mission president set it up so that we would have a chance to go to the temple! I got to see Sister Shipley again, and we were so excited to see each other, even though it had literally been one full week since we last saw each other, haha!
On Friday we had zone conference, which was fun! Sister Tunstall and I got called to be part of the Light the World committee for our mission this year! I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT IT! After zone conference, we did some visits in the Hickories ward. We went to this one house, where a Russian man opened the door. We explained to him that we share a message about Jesus Christ, and he looked right at Sister Tunstall and asked in his thick Russian accent, "Whutdoyouknowabut Jesus Christ?" It was kind of funny, but Sister Tunstall bore her testimony about Christ and how he is the son of God. We asked if we could come back, and he said that we could come back if we want to talk about Christ. He said he could talk about Christ all day, which is awesome! Later that day we met a Hungarian man on the street! So much culture! He invited us back to his house to meet his wife! They are Seventh Day Adventists, and the wife, Irma, is really intense. But the man, Eugene, is so sweet! We talked to them for a bit! We'll probably go back! Sister Tunstall has also been listening to Kanye West's gospel album (yes, it's allowed because it's about Jesus), which I think is just so funny! One of the songs talks about Chick-fil-a, and it starts out, "Closed on Sunday, your my chick-fil-a". So that's what I titled this weeks email!
Saturday was a good day! We were walking to visit Angela, we saw some llamas, and the Standings saw us walking and pulled over and invited us to dinner! So that was a miracle! We didn't have much luck with Angela and Trehvon, but that's okay, we can try again next week. We had Jimmy John's for lunch, then we went to visit the Curtis family. Sister Curtis shared a song she composed and submitted to the hymn book! She gave me a copy of the sheet music! I hope it gets in the hymn book, that would be awesome! It's a beautiful song! GET THIS- before I left the MTC, Elder Gonzalez of the seventy and his wife came and did a devotional. And their son and his wife are in one of our wards! We visited them! They are awesome people! Then we had our last minute dinner with the Standings! It was Brother Standings birthday, so we had cheesecake! YUM! I'm going to be 400 pounds when I get home. The members over feed us! Please don't send me any treats, I'm like bursting at the seams already. After dinner we went to the adult session of stake conference, which was so awesome! The mission president and his wife were there, and they made us missionaries stand up, which was a little embarrassing, but fun! Elder Cornish of the seventy also spoke! He invited us to do the primary program thing, where we set goals! Let me clarify. The church is implementing a new primary program, based on Luke 2:52
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man
So the primary program is about becoming more like Christ through setting goals in four categories: intellectual (wisdom), physical (stature), spiritual (favor with God), and social (favor with man). I thought that was really cool! I had already set goals before based on these categories, but I was able to change up my goals and shift my focus a little more. That night we switched to daylight savings time, which I am SO CONFUSED ABOUT. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS ANYMORE AAAAAAAAAGH
On Sunday we also had stake conference, where Elder Cornish spoke again. It was a really good conference! They talked about the difference between temple worship and temple work! Which I thought was cool! We did a lot of visits with members that day, but it was still really great! Anyway, until next time! I love you all!
Alma 16:14-16
14 And as many as would hear their words, unto them they did impart the word of God, without any respect of persons, continually.
15 And thus did Alma and Amulek go forth, and also many more who had been chosen for the work, to preach the word throughout all the land. And the establishment of the church became general throughout the land, in all the region round about, among all the people of the Nephites.
16 And there was no inequality among them; the Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the face of the land to prepare the minds of the children of men, or to prepare their hearts to receive the word which should be taught among them at the time of his coming
Sincerely,
Sister Hatch
